[waking up is hard to do]

for the past week i've become the cough-o-matic. it seems that i have these coughing fits, where i'll cough for about 10 minutes straight (and it's hard work!) and then my throat won't bother me for about half an hour. or an hour, if i'm lucky. but nowadays it seems that when i'm at the MRT, i have a coughing fit.
don't tell me i'm allergic to taking public transport!

but i have to admit that since i've been sick, i also haven't been sleeping well. i average about four hours a night, i think. and i seem to wake up more exhausted than when i went to sleep. this morning i almost couldn't put my contacts on because my eyes just wouldn't open! and my dreams seem to be getting weirder and weirder. honestly i can't remember what most of them are about (i'm still high on flu medication - i can't remember things i did half an hour ago!) but i was always wake up in the morning, scratching my head and thinking 'what the...?'

in the end, i got one day off from work to stay home and rest. but c'mon! who's going to recover from a week old flu in one day?

but i'm glad to say my cold seems to be going, it's just the cough that still remains.
i will survive, yeah yeah!

[gong xi gong xi]

my week of lounging at home because of the chinese new year holiday has come to an end. although i had great plans for the holiday (which at one time included a short trip somewhere, anywhere really, with a spa), in the end it was just limited to some visiting and a whole lot of hacking, coughing, sneezing and wheezing.

but i have to admit, it is a nice time when i get to see my extended family again. unfortunately we're not one of those families that meets up every week or every other week for dinner together. so really i only see my relatives about twice a year (more if there are other occasions like weddings, one month birthdays and deaths) i've got such adorable little nephews (3) and a cutie niece. actually they're more like my nephews and niece once removed, because they're my cousin's kids, not my sister's. that's from my mom's side of the family.

my dad's side of the family is a whole different story. it's a rather complicated thing involving one grandfather and three grandmothers. my grandfather passed away before i was born, and only two of my grandmothers are left (of course, we got stuck with the not so nice one, although the other two were, and still are, really lovely!) so that leaves 13 children on my father's side, and truth be told, i can't figure out how half of them are related to me.

most of the visiting we end up doing is to my dad's friends. which bores my sister and i to no end because it means they start drinking at noon, and we get stuck at each house for about 4 hours, or whenever my dad feels that he's had enough to drink (which is usually never less than 3 hours). so this year, my sister and i boycotted some of the visiting (i'm sick anyway! i need my rest.. teehee) and had a nice time just lounging at home doing not much at all.

so back to work i go tomorrow. i'm contemplating taking my sleepy medicine and acting high after lunch time!
haha!

[life lessons from baywatch]

okay, i admit it - bad tv sometimes is just so addictive! and even though baywatch doesn't have much of a plot, and the acting's not very good, i did learn one thing from it.

don't ever talk to any of the life guards.
anyone who does always has something bad happen to them later on!

makes you kinda wonder what sort of jinx these life guards have, eh!

[glass in my throat]

i don't think i've ever fallen this sick, this fast before. i'm officially quite sick, having lost my voice when i woke up this morning. and my throat is absolutely killing me every time i cough. and it's not even like my stomach muscles hurt because i've been coughing alot, because the funny thing is that i don't. but each time i do cough, argh! where the hell did all that glass in my throat come from?

and now my nose has started in on the action, and it's decided it only wants to do half the workload.
*sigh*

that also explains why it's 6am in the morning and i can't get back to sleep. i've been waking up here and there for the past few hours, and i can't get back to sleep (partially coz i can't breathe too), but i think that's what happens when you take afternoon naps to try and get some rest.

ooh look, the simpsons is on! haha, who knew early morning tv was so fun!

[just my luck]

just when i've got a week off from my company because of chinese new year, i get sick. i've got a very scratchy throat, a very dry cough, painful lungs and a nose that's threatening to leak at any moment.
i'm on holiday! can't i get a break? don't tell me i'm allergic to holidays!! that's just so unfair. actually, that's not just unfair, that's plain SAD! *sobs* and i haven't even started in on the chinese new year goodies yet!
mannn, what a way to start off the year. and it's my year too!!

sigh. here's a quiz i got off janice, just to keep myself occupied!

What's Your Celebrity Style?

Note: Scores are rounded to one decimal place and therefore may not total 100%
You scored 60% Trendsetter
Like Gywneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker or Cate Blanchett, you have a witty and individualistic approach to style. Your friends admire your expressiveness, but you're not necessarily out to grab attention. You just like what you like, and you know how to put it all together in fresh new ways. An experimenter at heart, you keep up with trends in order to put your own personal stamp on them. Like Cate, you may enjoy trying different things, and never look the same way twice. Or, like Gwyneth and Sarah Jessica, you may have a style all your own that can't help but set trends in motion. Classic trendsetting stars you resemble include Marlene Dietrich and Lauren Bacall, who did it their way all the way.

Your Must-Haves: Eye-catching accessories, cool vintage bags, something animal-print (a zebra coat?), funky shoes, and to keep it all balanced, the perfect crisp white blouse

Your Classic Movies: To Have and Have Not, Rebel without a Cause, Bonnie and Clyde

Other Celebrity Style Inspirations: Madonna, Natalie Wood, Faye Dunaway

You scored 20% Glamour Queen
Like Catherine Zeta Jones, Jennifer Lopez and Charlize Theron, you're not afraid to turn heads. You respect the rules that made Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe the icons they are: Keep the lipstick dark, the eyes mysterious and the clothes gorgeous -- and never let 'em see you in sweats. Your friends are inspired by your sense of drama and romance, and your biggest style challenge is living a life as sexy and self-assured as your wardrobe. Glamour is not dead, it's alive and well and living in your closet. Sound like an exaggeration? Maybe you're a glamour girl at heart whose daily uniform is a low-key turtleneck or a gray flannel suit. Whatever you wear, as Catherine, Jennifer and Charlize demonstrate, true glamour is less about ball gowns than regal bearing and a confident demeanor -- and you have that in abundance.

Your Must-Haves: Tall leather boots, anything red, gorgeous jewelry and at least one knock-'em-dead silk dress

Your Classic Movies: Cleopatra, The Seven Year Itch, Gilda

Other Celebrity Style Inspirations: Lucy Liu, Rita Hayworth, Sophia Loren

You scored 20% Low-Maintenance Hottie
Like Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan and Janeane Garafalo, you know looking good doesn't have to take hours. Your motto is "keep it simple, sweetheart," and your friends respect your independence. You may resist dressing up, but for good reason -- Julia knows she looks best when she lets her curly mane be natural, Janeane knows the coolest style statement is doing her own thing, and Meg has become one of the power players in Hollywood on the strength of her winning grin, rather than being a glamourpuss. Plus, all these stars have one thing in common: a natural appeal that comes from being themselves. Like classic -- and classy -- film icons Katherine Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman, you're no slave to fashion, and that suits you perfectly.

Your Must Haves: Lip balm, wear-with-anything shoes, one perfect all-purpose bag and a favorite comfy sweater -- and you practically invented blue jeans yourself!

Your Classic Movies: The Philadelphia Story, Casablanca, Annie Hall

Other Celebrity Style Inspirations: Diane Keaton, Doris Day, Cameron Diaz

You scored 0% Classic with a Twist
Like Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Winona Ryder, your polished, ladylike style is served in a long, cool glass with a shot of personal poise. But you're no strict traditionalist; your appreciation for flattering classics is informed by your own personality and spirit, and you aren't afraid to mix understated standbys with unusual flourishes that are uniquely yours. Your friends love your impeccable taste, and with good reason: You're one pulled-together lady, what used to be called "a class act." You aim to be neither a trend follower nor a trendsetter. Following in the style footsteps of icons Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn, your motto is "why fix what ain't broke?" Women have always looked great in black dresses and red lipstick -- and they still do.

Your Must-Haves: At least one luscious cashmere sweater, ladylike slingbacks, a silver compact or lipstick case, a trench coat and the perfect black dress

Your Classic Movies: Rear Window, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Dial M for Murder

Other Celebrity Style Inspirations: Gillian Anderson, Lena Horne, Uma Thurman

[the after lunch hour]

why is it that everytime you have a good lunch, you almost always feel like going straight to sleep? it's like that witching hour.. you struggle to keep your eyes open, and as much as you try, every so often it just blurs and refuses to focus.

it doesn't help that the office is really quiet now.. most people are either out for events or doing interviews. i'm stuck in the office (not really stuck, at this point of time i'd rather be here than anywhere else!) with some soft music on in the background (i love winamp radio!). i guess i should try and look a little busy at least!

It's the start of a brand new year. Here's some advice from TalkingCock.com's in-house philosopher Confuseus (a foreign talent from the Mainland. Look, he was cheap, okay?), which will hopefully make 2004 more pleasant for you than 2003. (Sorry, no guarantees.)

20. It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to steal your neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it.

19. There may be more than one way to skin a cat, but don't be so neow, lah.

18. Those who live in glass houses better have powderful curtains.

17. Half a loaf is better than none, unless you're on a low-carb diet.

16. Don't burn your bridges behind you. Wait kena fine, then you know.

15. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. You think you who? Michael Jackson?

14. If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach him to fish, he will sit in a boat whole day long and drink beer.

13. Before you criticize someone, you should first walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

12. If at first you don't succeed, don't go skydiving.

11. Do not be a frog in a well. In fact, don't be a frog at all if you can help it.

10. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a notification to MINDEF.

9. Blood is thicker than water, but less gross than Newater.

8. If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of credit card payments.

7. You need not suffer in silence. You can also moan, whimper, and complain.

6. Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

5. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill, unless the molehill is unusually large.

4. Curiosity killed the cat. Or maybe it was the Agri-food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore. I can't remember.

3. All work and no play beats being unemployed.

2. When the going gets tough, check out Australia or Canada.

And the number one piece of advice for 2004:

1. Please: delete those nasty digital photos of your maid from your hard disk.

[ball issues]

my lovely pet rottweiler, known as pebbles, has a thing for balls.
now mind you, before you get any ideas, yes she is a female dog, but i'm talking about tennis balls. everytime she's out for a walk, and there's a tennis ball on the side of the road (and trust me, it happens more often than you think), she'll snatch it up in her mouth, and start heading straight home, regardless of whether she's finished with all her business on the walk.

so she'll rush home, climb up the stairs and spit out the ball.

annnd that's about it really. after that she'll carry it around the house for a bit, and then it's forgotten.

i think she has some serious ball issues! or maybe we just aren't giving her enough toys to play with..

i've got some photos up online of leanne's wedding and my queensland trip. so by all means, go and have a look :)

[jinxed]

so here i am, sitting in my room with my swimsuit on, waiting to go swimming. except that once i'd gotten changed, it started drizzling. i think there's a global conspiracy to keep me fair skinned and pale. yes i know there's probably alot of people out there who want fair skin, but i'm not one of them! i like to be tanned! mostly in a weak attempt to look sportier than i really am.. haha!

maybe i should just hop on my bike and go for a spin. at least if the wewather's cooler i won't be sweating as much. or maybe i should stay home and do some yoga.

or maybe i should just sit in my chair and read a book.
hmm, but it's such nice weather for a nap.........

[dream dream dreeeeam]

i've been having lots of weird dreams the past few weeks, some a bit nicer than others (the one last night with aragorn was quite nice!). you've got wonder though, what do all these dreams mean.. and why do they always have to be so abstract? if only i could dream in proper understandable terms, i might not have such difficulty trying to understand what it all means. and the problem with having vivid dreams, as fun as they are to 'watch' sometimes, is that you end up feeling like you haven't slept at all...

and funnily enough, it looks like i'm not the only one who's been dreaming alot nowadays!

[back at work]

so here i am, back at the office once again. it feels kind of funny to be back, in a way it's like i never left (okay so i'm being a bit drama, i was only gone like 10 days). but at the same time i sit at my desk trying to do some work, and i can't remember what it was i'd decided to do before i went on leave. 'did i say i wanted to feature chandelier earrings? no right?? then what was it - the sunglasses?'

and for some odd reason i'm craving a strawberry champagne at the moment. maybe that's what monday does to you!

[at home]

this, i think, is my first full day at home since i've gone on leave. which is a bit of a pity really because i go back to work tomorrow!! but it's nice just lounging around at home, and just relaxing and lazing. isn't it funny how sometimes we've got the time to spend at home and we end up complaining about how there's nothing to do?
and then when you start work, the only thing you want to do is just stay at home and do nothing!

but alas, that is not my future, so i shall have to go back to my little cubicle and be productive. but to make things a little more interesting, the sweet chad bought me the lord of the rings book! i'm on my way to achieving one new year's resolution!
woohoo!
plus i've just used the elizabeth arden peel and reveal mask, and my skin feels really good. that's two resolutions!
i'm on a roll!

[the new year and the wedding]

i don't think we could have asked for a more perfect day for the wedding. although it was a bit on the warm side, the sun was shining and the sky was the perfect shade of blue. the only hitch i ran into was the small bout of food poisoning that decided to hit at 3am, so by the time 7am came about, i was still a bit groggy. coupled with a phone call from the caterers wondering where they should set up, and the fact that i couldn't understand a word of what the guy was saying, i flew into a slight panic thinking i was never going to have enough time to get dressed and that the rest of the day was going to be a flurry of phone calls and pandemonium.
but i remembered everything that i needed to, took care of the little details that i was supposed to, and the service went off without a hitch. i had to stop myself from crying a few times (i'm emotional ok! *sobs*) but leanne couldn't have made a more beautiful bride. so i finally came home in the afternoon, quite exhausted and collapsed into my bed for an afternoon nap.

dinner was at the shangri-la, and the couple had asked me to take care of the reception table (and the ang pows, haha!). and i can tell you now, i think it's only polite if you RSVP! there's really a reason why people ask to know if you're attending or not, it's because they can figure out the seating arrangements! there were people who showed up with their partners, not having RSVPed for them, or some people that showed up in groups without having RSVPed. if it were me, i'd have just told them to go home. haha but luckily for them it wasn't my wedding dinner, so i had to make alternative arragements for them to be shoved onto another table.

leanne had done up the ballroom in an enchanted forest sort of theme, and ther were fairy lights and tea lights everywhere, with rose petals and leaves on the floor. i have to admit it looks breath-taking, especially when you compare it to the cheesy decor that the hotels usually provide. and thank goodness they decided to do away with the dry ice and techno music for the first dish! stylo all the way, leanne! but this was one of the most memorable wedding dinners i've ever attended. not only because i got to be a part of it, but because alot of the people who attended were old school mates, so it was like a mini reunion!! and of course, i took tons of photos which i'll get round to putting up soon :)

what a way to start the new year :)

resolutions
one: to stop drinking so much
two: to take better care of my skin so that when i go out drinking it'll still look good the morning after
three: to go to the gym more
four: to read the lord of the rings and not cheat by reading the movie versions of the book
five: to not make so many resolutions so i can keep to them!
